Joey Smith

The Presidential Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by the Graduate School to recognize the outstanding scholarly accomplishments and potential of graduate students entering the final phase of their dissertation research or terminal degree project.

Joey’s PhD dissertation is titled “Investigating factors that impede social acceptance of urban stormwater control measure technology”. His research focuses on how the interplay between fundamental and applied social, biological, and physical sciences affect urban stormwater control measure technologies, such as rain gardens. Joey has worked with scientists in China, Sweden, and across the U.S. to form a team that investigates this issue. Throughout his research he has travelled to China and even hosted his international colleagues. In 2021, he and the ESGP co-hosted an Earth Day event with OSU’s National East Asian Languages Resource Center and Wuhan University’s School of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering to highlight green solutions for restoring the Earth.

Congratulations Joey!!
